An air bag scale is an onboard weighing system that measures a vehicle load using the air pressure in its air bag suspension. Instead of driving onto a weighbridge, the truck weighs itself and shows the result on a phone. If your trucks and trailers ride on air suspension, an air bag scale like AirRide Scale is the simplest, most cost effective way to know your weights anywhere.
What is an air bag scale?
Air bag (air) suspension supports the vehicle on rubber air springs. The heavier the load on an axle group, the higher the air pressure in those bags. An air bag scale fits a sensor that reads this pressure and converts it into weight. Because every air suspension vehicle already carries the air springs, the suspension effectively becomes the weighing element.
How air bag scales work, step by step
- Air bag pressure sensing. Sensors monitor the pressure in each air bag in real time as you load.
- Axle group calculation. Calibrated algorithms convert pressure into accurate weight for each axle group.
- Wireless live data. With AirRide Scale, RF sensors send to the AirRide Air Link, which relays to your phone by Bluetooth.
- Mobile weight display. The Loadsense app shows gross weight, each axle group, and legal limit status, live.
Works on air bag suspension only. AirRide Scale reads load through the air springs, so it fits trucks and trailers running air bag (air) suspension on each axle group you want to weigh. Steel, leaf and mechanical spring axle groups are not supported. If your steer, drive and trailer groups ride on air, you are ready for AirRide Scale.
Why operators choose air bag scales
- Avoid fines by staying compliant before you reach a weigh station.
- Improve efficiency by removing weighbridge detours and guesswork.
- Maximise payload by loading right up to the legal limit with confidence.
- Track and report with optional cloud reporting for the whole fleet.
In a sentence
An air bag scale turns your air suspension into a truck scale you carry with you, and AirRide Scale makes that weight live, wireless and easy to read for fleets across the USA, Canada and Europe.
